Sigh. You are essentially expressing my daily inner monologue. This is the story of my new-ish suburban life… even 4 years in I’ve struggled to find other women/moms/any freaking human that I connect with and can just be myself with without trying so hard. I accidentally end up being a complete nerd and wish I hadn’t spoken haha! I find myself constantly comparing every relationship I create here to those I had previously and it’s hard to stop. I feel you and I appreciate you for talking about this:)
Lindsay!!! I know we have talked about this and thank you for reminding me because I’m like is this just meeeee?! No! It’s so not! Actually a few people reached out saying they struggle too! And they are all cool people!
Dude, the trying too hard in conversation and then regretting it is so weird. Sometimes I walk away and think, did I just freak them out by my energy level?! Was my laugh too loud?! Probably. But if they can’t handle this ball of fun, then byeeeee hahaha.
Wouldn’t it be funny if we tell people, you can call all my references! Im qualified to be a good friend, promise!
Ooooh girl. Also with your generation of growing up so disparate with your phones, it’s a whole other layer. Are you finding it’s hard too with being a mom? It can feel lonesome when you’re so focused on baby and then trying to fit in friendship is hard! The kids go to school near you, we should meet up!
You've reminded me of a very old song 🎵 "make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold". On election Tuesday sdge turned off power on my mountain, my generator kicked in but then it failed. My wifi and cell tower went out and now I'm all alone with no way to communicate. My friends saved me, we need them. Loved seeing you.
Oh my gosh Dona, do you still have no power?! We all need friends! It’s been great making more of an effort to see my old friends (like Shelby and Lola!) and, you know what?! I see a shift in people at my new school opening up to me more! I put that good energy out there!

I’m not 40, but even in your 20s, finding friends that you jive with is difficult. Especially in times as polarizing as election year.
