Ouch!! I smiled reading this, not because it is funny... but your writing really made it feel light. Such a great reminder and our kids really do help ground us!
Thank you Lauren! My sister said she could hear me telling it when she read it. I tend to write like how I talk, I guess. Probably best for easy reading and I don’t have the pressure to make my writing “fancy.”
Holy crap. Somehow you made this very funny but I felt your pain at the same time. And I love how you wanted to make sure your kids were ok more than anything. It's hard being a mom :) Happy you're ok!
Although so painful it was so so funny. I am now reading The Power of Coincidence by David Ricoh and now this story is making me reevaluate that day, how it was all meant to happen the way it did because I learned a lot from it!
This made me laugh but also feel very bad for you and in the pain you must have been in! Kudos for keeping your shit together for the kids! A great read as always 💜💫
Yes I will take the kudos. I DID keep my shit together and I truly wanted to fall apart the whole time but I didn’t!
Although I got the flu at the beginning of a camping trip with my family earlier this week and I fell apart for that. Sobbed feeling so sorry for myself because we were looking forward to this trip for so long! Oh well, can’t be a hero every time!
Oh no! That is terribly bad timing for the flu. I hope you feel better now! I've had a similar situation this week as I've ended up with food poisoning in Morocco 🤢. I've felt awfully sorry for myself all weekend. Something's are just too hard to not let get to us 😂
Holy 💩, Stephanie! What a harrowing and terrifying tale. I can't believe that mini harpoon went through your foot. You are/were SO effing brave. I definitely would've passed out and drowned right there in front of my kids, if I had kids which is why I don't have kids. So happy that you were okay and that you shared this story. It's a nail biter and has a great ending. You should tell this one at The Moth some time! It's got the perfect 3-act story structure and I bet the crowd would go wild. Did you keep that stingray stinger as a keepsake?
Hahaha omg I’m thinking of you fainting! I gotta check out The Moth! It’s weird how notes doesn’t let you reply to both your note and your comment at the same time. Anyway, you got two comments from me! Hi!
Ouch!!! Goodness you're brave!!! So glad you were able to deal with your foot and have presence of mind to let people help you with your kids at the same time!! Amazing!! 💚💚💚
And thank you so much for mentioning my art and newsletter!! So kind of you!! 💚💚
I imagine the social worker helping that day was so relieved to get this sort of call. I’m sure she deals with really heavy stuff so escorting 2 kids to the hospital whose mom had a foot sting was a piece of cake! I love your work, so inspiring!
Oh thank you for your kind words about my art! And I'll bet you're correct that the social worker was indeed relieved!! So glad your foot is fine now (it is isn't it?)

Laughing so hard at this. Your questions for the paramedic...gold!!! :D
Haha! I know, I was so serious! And felt so dumb yet so relieved at the same time!!!
Thank you so much for the mention. Hugely appreciated.
It’s so hard when you’re going through those times when you just need help and you look around and are like “oh, I’m the adult here, okay, now what?”
Yep! Adulting is hard! Making decisions is hard! And making decisions when you aren’t sure if you’re going to die is harder, haha!!!
I'm glad there was a happy ending ... no Steve Irwin story here!!!

Yes! Foot is fine, phew!!!
Good!!! Glad to hear that!!!
