Gianina joined us on the pod to talk about the hardest day of her life. Her story involves an incredible journey of resiliency, support from loved ones, and working closely with a team of excellent doctors and nurses. Gianina went through one of the most complicated pregnancies we have ever heard and we are impressed with her bravery, optimism, and her desire to bring awareness to what happened to her and her babies.
Gianina was diagnosed with two conditions. TTTS, twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, is an unequal sharing of volume of blood through the babies' shared placenta causing an amniotic fluid difference. sIUGR, selective intrauterine growth restriction, a form of TTTS, is an unequal placental share causing growth restriction in one of the babies.
We love what she wrote here: “Everyday is still an emotional battle to honor Gianna and to also be present and happy for my baby girl Liliana who I love so much. Looking into Liliana’s eyes everyday and watching her grow is a daily reminder that I was to have another beautiful girl just like her and that she was in the womb with her identical best friend. When she looks into my eyes deeply I feel her sister’s presence and feel as though her soul is inside of Liliana. She’s our angel 👼 watching us everyday and is here with us in spirit.”
