and yes, really hard to hear the criticism when that's something that you've been working on.. esp when it comes from somebody close! glad furry ones are doing better!
Love this! I am a great advocate for taking all feedback and criticism on board - but in reality it makes me feel uncomfortable, and has also reduced me to tears on more than one occasion. Taking a moment to reflect on why you felt how you did is huge, and it takes even more courage to write about it. Next time someone gives me criticism I'm going to remember this post!
You're a crier too!? I was so embarrassed the tears came out but I can't control them. I thought about why I made that quick decision to change my mindset... honestly, I think apart of it was that I had to see my nanny again the next day! But who cares, it made me make the change we needed in this house.
I love this honesty! I react the same way, especially when it’s someone particularly close. I know it’s a “little” thing, but there is bravery in your realization and changed response. So so happy to hear you are seeing improvement with the pups!
great post... who hasn't felt upset about criticism? That you reversed your internal dialogue is what matters. Cheers to listening even when it wasn't comfortable. I hope what you take away is a strength to keep focused on changing what needs to change. You can do it! Your dogs clearly adore you, so when they understand what you need and that you won't settle for less, they will mind you. 💜
I can so relate! I had three nannies over the years, and I was not great at either giving or receiving feedback. I think you handled that very well! You and your nanny had a great dialogue.
thank you for the shout out!

Hi Sue, you're welcome! I love your perspective and that you've incorporated your dad's work into your substack too.
