May include leaning in to loud quitting, a gritty mindset, a new view on ambition, and setting clear boundaries + video of me talking about working 'til midnight, also featuring my dogs
For as long as I can remember, one of my mottos has been that life is a compromise. "Having it all" typically equals doing a mediocre job at most things. And I don't think of the word compromise as a negative. It's a realistic view of life that lets us concentrate on what we find most important to achieve. 💜
Life is very much a compromise. It's made me feel better than the "having it all" or idea of "balance" because it's never balanced. Sometimes I'm good at one thing and the other parts of my life are on pause and I'm not so great at, and that's OK. Thank you for your thoughtful comment!
I totally felt it, too! It fed into me being ok with working stupidly long hours. It also made me feel like crap that I didn't want to work all the time either. Especially now that I have kids (Lean In came out a year before my first), I find it more crazy to think of. No, I don't want to work 130 hours a week, if I could (Marissa Mayer). I cannot have it all. I should not have it all. Striving to have it all is a broken mindset.
