Happy 1 year anniversary!!! Congratulations and I look forward to what’s to come :). Thank YOU for your thoughtfulness, honesty, humor, and perspective!
Happy 1-year anniversary! I too am celebrating a year on Substack in a few weeks. It's nice to still be standing, or better said, still be writing! I love your newish direction and look forward to watching it unfold. I too have been thinking about voice over and perhaps videos. One change at a time! Hope you are celebrating your accomplishment!!! 💜
How did I forgot to thank you for your comment!? Thank you, Sue! I love doing the voiceover because it helps me edit my piece as I am forced to read it out loud and better hear understand the flow of my piece.
Happy 1 year anniversary! Glad to have found you recently and am humbled for being included in this list. I laughed so hard at "OG internet rambler" haha!
Being OG is cool, being OG on the internet is even cooler, and then add rambler to it? Golden :) I enjoy the mix of topics you have on Everything is Liminal. Reminds me of how I talk about a lot of "random" things going on in my brain and life so thanks for making me feel seen with my writing!
Congratulations, Stephanie - what an incredible milestone! Cheering you on with your next year of writing. ✨ I'm planning to experiment more with audio and video too (love both but it's all about finding the time, right?!) so I'll look forward to seeing what you develop with those too. Love that we have so many options here! Thanks for the generous mention too - I really appreciate it and am so glad you're enjoying Haver & Sparrow. 🥰
Yes, the time is a big issue. And quality! I learned a lot in doing a video podcast and having the right tools and setup is a big one. But I think the biggest thing is obviously having good content on there.
Hey Stephanie! Congratulations on your first year on Substack! What a milestone. I loved reading about your hopes for the future of this space and also resonate with the need to mix things up with audio, video as well as well-crafted words. Our attention, as Katherine May says, is stray. It's hard to tame it. To expect others to sit with us when we struggle to sit with them. Not for want of trying, but just... Overwhelm.
My most 'successful' Substack letters so far have featured some video or audio (or been a bit meta and referenced writing on Substack/hacks... I suppose we all want to learn from one another).
I'm reading this in the hairdresser's so will watch and listen when it's socially acceptable to do so!
Lindsay, I love the quote from Katherine May. It's true! We're all competing for attention because there's so many easy hits out there. Do you mind sharing some of these newsletters with me? I'd love to see which ones worked well for you. I'm enjoying discovering and reading how others are being creative with their newsletters. It's so inspiring. I appreciate you coming here to comment and reading/listening/watching!
I loved your video, Stephanie! So lovely to see and hear you and get a sense of the whole person. I think you're right about the other features on Substack giving space for the elements that the writing cannot. For example, the reading from your journal was so powerful for me.
As requested, here's a link to one of my most 'successful' posts, I think because it's about Substack! In it, I'm talking about the arguments for and against going 'paid', and it definitely generated a lot more traffic than other posts I've felt 'prouder' of in terms of my craft: https://lindsayjohnstone.substack.com/p/can-you-put-a-price-on-creativity
The other one that did really well was an introduction video that I have now pinned to the top of my Substack... it ended up on the main Substack Recommends page for a bit and so perhaps that's a sign I should be doing more of that!
I appreciate you watching the video! I just watched your video and, oh my goodness, you have a magnetic personality and speak so well. You cover so many similar topics that interest me too. I will continue to read through your archive for more inspiration. Thank you for coming back to send this thoughtful comment.
So glad I discovered your Substack this year! Happy 1st Anniversary!
Thank you for these kind words. I am glad you are here and read my work!
Happy 1 year anniversary Steph! I have been so inspired and entertained reading all of your work, and I can't wait to read more!!
Thank you, Marie! I appreciate you and your support and all the comments and emails and texts you’ve sent me!
Happy 1 year anniversary!!! Congratulations and I look forward to what’s to come :). Thank YOU for your thoughtfulness, honesty, humor, and perspective!
Thank you for reading and your support and kind words. They keep me going, thank you!!!
Happy 1 year anniversary Stephanie 🎉 and here is to many more!!
Thank you! I’m glad we have been supporting each other!
Absolutely!! 💜💜

I can imagine that will be helpful. When I was editing my book, my editor would tell me I had to read it out loud to myself. 💜

I can never pigeonhole myself in a niche :)
I love Unpacking and the videos are a great addition. 🙌
Thanks, Gina! I'm glad we found each other here!
Me too!!
Happy anniversary! Nice to hear how you play around with different formats and ideas
Thank you, Sian! How's running going for you this summer?
Not great to be honest- haven’t got out as regularly as I would like but it’s 3 months until my 1/2 marathon so training starts now!

Ooooh thank you for listening and watching! I look forward to see if you do new stuff. If not, I look forward to more of your writing.
